Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well! As you already know I spent three days in Edinburgh last week (probably the cutest, most underrated capital in Europe if you ask me) and, as usual when I have had an amazing hotel experience, I would hereby like to present the excellent Old Town Chambers that you guys asked me about on Instagram when I gave you a tour of our rooftop penthouse.
Of all the 5* rated and award winning properties that I have stayed at (and truly loved in so many ways) Old Town Chambers is one of few that has actually distinguished itself for providing an authentic experience. I would almost like to say that this hotel had a certain personality! Hosting a total of 50 apartments in the World Heritage Site of the Old Town (occupying a 15th century house among other characteristic buildings) with a spectacular view over e.g. Princes Gardens we as guests were so up close to the historical surroundings at the same time as our apartment had all kinds of modern comforts – an impeccable combination of old and new. Going through the pictures on my phone I just really miss standing on our five(!) balconies right in the middle of all those old Scottish houses while getting what must have been one of the best imaginable views over the city. I stood on my balcony every night and morning just to watch the architecture wondering when Hedwig from Harry Potter would appear as it reminded me so much of the Harry Potter movies. Fun fact is that only one block away from Old Town Chambers, at Gladstone’s Land which is Edinburgh’s oldest house, one could pet and take pictures with real (super cute!) owls!
Apart from five balconies our penthouse had three bedrooms provided with desks, televisions and even individually controlled heating systems in addition to separate bathrooms with bathtubs as well as showers, not to mention a large living room with luxurious furniture plus a very well-equipped kitchen for those who prefer to cook themselves. As you saw on my stories on Instagram I spent the last night catching up with Riverdale as the TV had Netflix while drinking complementary coffee from the Nespresso machine in our kitchen (I know you shouldn’t do this if you want to fall asleep but I just love coffee so much). Apart from being provided with basically everything one could need, just as any home should be, I really loved how the simple yet beautiful styling of our apartment contributed to the authentic feeling of the accommodation with its’ wooden floors and brick walls right outside. To me it just felt very traditionally Scottish, which I really loved!
To add to the feeling of total privacy and convenience the breakfast, for those who wish, comes in the shape of a box delivered to your room as Old Town Chambers recently entered a partnership with the acclaimed Valvona & Crolla. These include everything from cheese to fruit juice and muesli that I can really recommend you guys to try. Furthermore, the gym is open around the clock and is equipped with basically everything from weights to treadmills.
Apart from the wonderful facilities the fact that excellence of service is of paramount importance to Old Town Chambers was very obvious in many ways. Instead of spending a lot of time at a check in desk we were provided with an entry code and all necessary information on our stay before our arrival, that gave us access to the property and our apartment, which was very efficient as we could just walk in there, say “wow! ” to the coolness of our apartment and then head straight to town. In other words this system really accommodates hectic schedules! Besides, Old Town Chambers also has a 24-hour concierge service that consists of one of the friendliest and most charming groups of people ever who very kindly explained to us something so simple as how the TV worked.
As mentioned here and on Instagram Old Town Chambers is located in the most convenient area imaginable. Right on the Royal Mile overlooking Princes Gardens and the Scott Monument (read more about those and other things to see here) it was perfect walking distance to all the important landmarks and attractions (also meaning that we discovered a lot of other hidden gems as we were navigating there). Edinburgh also offers a lot of free tours (we e.g. went on a ghost tour) of which many started right outside as it’s such an important area with lots of history. Our entire stay was just so convenient thanks to the extensive excellence of Old Town Chambers! Thank you very much to everyone who worked there (if you see this, hihi) for being so nice to us!
See you guys next week in Morocco!
